Hello! Today I am going to talk about good driving practises. You have seen me ramble about idiots who don't know how to drive. So here it is.
1. Speed limits-This is a controversial topic, and there are many perspectives as to what to do, and are they even required or not. But it isn't important what the Government is doing about it. What's important is what you do. Follow the speed limit, and if you are still overwhelmed by the complexity of it, know that while overtaking you can be 5-10 km/h above the speed limit, and that if you get overwhelmed, then forget the speed limit for one second, and stay in your comfort zone i.e. what speed you are comfortable at. Do not go above your comfort zone, it's not worth the risk. You will be safe in your comfort zone, and will be able to stay out of danger, because you can react fast if something happens. 2. Lane Discipline-It is important to follow lane discipline to stay safe. In a country where no one follows lane discipline, that will keep you safe, and will also make you a faster driver. The rule in India is to stay in the left lane as much as possible. Left lane is the slowest lane, and right lane is the fast lane, which is only to be used for overtaking. If you want to overtake another vehicle, the correct procedure to do it is to get to the right lane, overtake from the right, and then get back to the left lane. It is incorrect to hold the right lane, because you will hold back faster traffic. The important point is to check your mirrors and use turn signals while changing lane. Also to check the inside rear view mirror to see a faster vehicle coming, and then move to the lane on the left side to let it go.
3. Sacrifice your pride and ego-Roadrage, overtaking roughly, chasing a bad driver, cutting roughly, crossing the speed limit. All this happens because drivers are egoistic and their ego gets hurt easily. So keep your pride aside and you will avoid all such incidents.
4. Use your mirrors and indicators. Do not compromise on this.
5. Keep your windshield, rear glass window, mirrors and windows clean, for complete visibility.
6. When you are in a tunnel, always keep your headlights on, for complete visibility. Do not turn on your hazard lights in a tunne;.
7. Always drive slower than you do when it is raining. It is not worth it. Plus, the visibility is low so you might not see something in front of you. So it is best to also maintain a safe gap.
8. Cover up sleep before going for a drive
9. Plan your drive well. You should know everything, and the route should be planned. You should also know the estimated time for which you are going to be on the road, breaks and fuel stops.
10. Stay in your comfort zone.
