We car-guys dream as well, like regular people. Let’s face it, most of what’s shown in the movies isn’t real, most of it is fake and made-up, and the other half of it is done by talented stunt drivers like Ben Collins (the ex-Stig in Top Gear). Not to mention Rohit Shetty rolling over cars like there is no tomorrow. But, the movies are what inspire most of us, they are the things that made us dream of a better world, better possibilities, and better cars. Okay, I digress, let’s cut to the chase. The cars that I mention here are my heroes, the heroes that I look up to. These are the cars that taught me to dream, and to strive for driving excellence and pleasure, and to strive for cars that represent something more than what meets the eye. A homage to the cars that inspire.
1. Mahindra Scorpio Gen 1 2.6 CRDE-This was the car that was driven by Ajay Devgn in Singham. This car, man, the butch, bulk, and masculinity it projects on you, let alone driving, even seeing it, gives you a double-shot of testosterone. Even today, seeing a Scorpio gen 1, in white or black, gives me goosebumps. That car has so much presence, so much charm, and so much personality! I am drawn to it like a moth to a candle. I know that simile is overused, but it’s the truth.
2. Aston Martin 2009 DBS Manual, Aston Martin DB5-Bond, James Bond. You might have heard this somewhere…..ring a bell? Yes! I’m not kidding! These two cars were used by the James Bond himself, and I have fallen in love. I want one, and by my current financial state I might have to sell my kidneys to own one, I at least want to drive each of them once in my life. Will own one soon as well, let’s see.
3. Porsche 964 911 turbo 3.6, Porsche 992 911 turbo S-Bad boys, bad boys, whacha’ gonna do? Whacha’ gonna do when they come for you! Who doesn’t want a Porsche? Especially the ones that Will Smith himself drove in the first ever Bad Boys and in the most recent fourth one.
4. Ford GT40-The car that made Ford proud. The car that made history in 1966 by winning first-second-third in the 24 hours of Le Mans. The car that was used in the story that was re-produced in the form of a movie called “Ford VS Ferrari”, in which Ford beat Ferrari in the 24 hours of Le Mans. Who doesn’t want the car that has been driven by Ken Miles himself? Not to mention the fact that Caroll Shelby help build the car. 7000 rpm, is where it’s at. Those who have seen the movie will get the reference
5. Audi A8 W12-The very car that Jason Statham drove in the original Transporter movie series, which consists of 3 movies. I want it in black. Enough said
6. Fast and the Furious-This legendary series of ten movies, where cars bend the laws of physics, most of the stunts are fake, and haters think it’s a disrespect to cars, is what I grew up looking up to. I still look up to it, speaking of which, when is the sequel to Fast X coming? It’s not Paul Walker’s 10-second Supra or silver Skyline, or the hyper-cars and supercars used, that catch my eye, though. It’s the black 70’s Dodge Charger, that Vin Diesel drove, with an American V-8, a huge supercharger, and never-ending tanks of nitrous. American Muscle, never gets old. Honorable mentions-Han’s Alfa Romeo and RX-8, and the Red Dodge Daytona used in Fast and Furious 6.
7. Ford Crown Vic-The Ford Crown Victoria was a legend. You might have seen it in English Hollywood movies, especially American ones, in which they have been used as a police car, and a yellow taxi. It was a workhorse, and it has been shown being driven hard, chasing the bad guys, drifting, spinning out, and getting crashed a bajillion times. It is indeed sad that it was discontinued. Rear-wheel-drive, V-8 engine, and a classy sedan. This car is an icon.
8. Need for speed-The Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 with the silver paint and blue stripes and the red Koenigsegg Agera R being driven by the protagonist, are the ones I want.
9. Chevrolet Camaro/Corvette-These cars I fell in love with through movies and video games.
10.Ferrari Testarossa-Now mentioning a Ferrari might be really cliché and I got to know that this car existed through movies and video games. What you really have to see is the driving chase scene from the movie “Murder Mystery” where Jennifer Anniston of all people is driving it. Its an amazing scene, hilariously good and well-shot. You will love it, and fall in love with the car as well.
