It is 2024. Traffic in India is increasing. People still want to buy bigger SUVs. But, be honest with me. Do you really need it? Is it adding any space and practicality to your life? Most of them aren’t even real SUVS! They are just hatchbacks, with raised ground clearance! They are more expensive, heavier, and less fuel efficient, and actually have lesser space than hatchbacks! So, let me give you a few reasons why you would want to buy a hatchback, and then you decide. Works?
1. Compact footprint-Driving in most metro cities in India is stressful (or in most places in India, even the ghats and the hills, where everyone wants to drive. Let’s be real). Looking for parking can be a bit tough. Hatchbacks have compact size which helps in making parking easy, no matter where you are. This is India, and things are unpredictable, so it’s good to have a car which is easy to park and has a small turning radius. Helps in mall parkings as well!
2. Practicality and space-Most hatchbacks have actually more space than most Compact-SUVs, if you observe. Hatchbacks also have decent boot space, so you don’t need a compact SUV to survive.
3. Fuel economy-Hatchbacks are some of the smallest, and lightest cars. So, they are the most fuel efficient. They are lighter and have better aerodynamics, so they have better fuel economy than SUVs.
4. Lightness-Hatchbacks are lighter, so you don’t need to put a powerful engine in them to get them moving. Plus, since they are lighter, they can get up steep inclines more easily, and get out of tricky situations more easily because of it. If the car can’t power out of it, people can push it out!
5. Fun-to-drive- There is something fun about driving a small car to the limit. Even if you don’t drive too fast, zipping through city traffic puts you in a good mood. Driving a small car is a different kind of fun. It is a different kind of light-hearted fun, where you aren’t worried about anything, and you don’t need to prove anything. Just you, the car, and a lot of smiles. Small cars are cheap, reliable, and fuel-efficient. That makes you worry less, and that gives you a lot of peace of mind, so you just keep on driving, and driving a small car hard and exploring the limits of the car, making the car dance to your beat, is something I want every enthusiast to experience. Every Indian wants something big and imposing as a car, to prove something, but after some thought, you realize, that a hatchback is all you need! Like Indians say, “Chota pack, Bada Dhamaka!” (Small package, big potential).
