Over the years, the Indian motorcycle market has evolved rapidly. So rapidly, that it’s hard to keep track of how many motorcycles are on sale, and automotive journalists and media outlets are constantly on their toes because there are so many new motorcycle launches. The market is extremely competitive, and it’s the exact opposite of how it was in the past. Earlier, you had very less competition, the market leader had majority of the entire market, and there were very few choices. It was simpler. Now, there are so many different brands and products, and so many choices, that you are spoiled for choice, and it is hard to pick one. The market is extremely competitive, and modern motorcycles have become so competent, amazing, and reliable, that it’s hard to pick the wrong motorcycle, and you are shown really great products in every segment. My point is, that stop worrying about horsepower and engine size. All you need to be comfortable to tour around India with heavy luggage and a pillion (someone sitting behind you) is 40 horsepower, and a 400 ish cc engine. And that is to be comfortable. Which is why if you can, you should buy a 400cc motorcycle, or any one of the choices in that segment. The 400cc motorcycle segment is really booming now, and bikes of that cubic capacity are perfect for India. You don’t need anything more than that, so that segment is the place to be. You can’t go wrong with any option. Though to complete my point, you can do anything with even lesser. If you don’t believe me, look at what Indians from the humblest of economic backgrounds can achieve with a Splendor or an Activa. They will probably overtake you multiple times when you are sitting in peak traffic in your luxury SUV, thinking that they should have gotten a cheap two-wheeler for the urban commute! Jokes apart, you can tour across India with anything. Forget engine size and horsepower and torque numbers. Work on your skill as a rider. Start somewhere. Don’t worry, because you won’t go wrong anyway. It’s just that motorcycles have gotten really good, capable, and reliable. Go to showrooms, take as many test rides as you can, because your motorcycle (or scooter), is waiting for you.
